It’s not every day we get to defy gravity, but last week our Mechanical team at 81 Bay Street did just that.
The team safely (and successfully) installed the first set of 40 ft pipe risers into the core of the building. These tubes will run the entire length of the building and will carry essential services like hot, cold and storm water and natural gas.
Installing these pipe risers is quite the engineering feat. Water and natural gas will have to fight against gravity to reach the top floors of the building, and will change temperature and pressure along the way. This causes the metal pipes to expand, so the installers need to understand thermal expansion basics and pressure variations in order to safely position the pipes for their future use.
An installation of this size and importance doesn’t happen once. The team will have to install these another 14 times before the job is complete. It’s a big job, but everyone is up to the challenge.
Way to go team!
